John Muir completed his 1000 mile walk from Indiana and arrived in Cedar Key in October 1867. While recovering from a bout with malaria in Cedar Key, Muir first expressed his belief that "Nature is valuable for its own sake, not only because it is useful for man". This principle guided Muir throughout his life.

Cedar Key Florida recieves NOAA;s clean water endorsement by releasing 23 Kemp´s Ridley Turtles into the Clean Gulf Waters of Cedar Key´s National Wildlife Refuge here in Cedar Key, FL.  All 23 turtles were rescued from areas inundated with oil from as far as Louisiana and Mississippi after the BP Disaster.  Cedar Key is an excellent choice.   Retired Admiral Thad Allen was present for the release.  Come and enjoy the recreation in our Pure Water Wilderness in the Heart of Florida´s Nature Coast, Cedar Key, FL.   

The USDA has named Cedar Key, The State of Florida´s Rural Community of the Year for 2010!  Contratulations to all who made this honor possible.
